CÁIT NÍ DHUIBHIR
Tránóinín beag déanach is mo thréad agam á chur ón síon
i lúib na coille craobhaí is nach aerach a bhí mo thriall.
Bhí an chuach is an lon is an chéirseach ar séirse is gach nota fíor
is i mbun is i mbarr gach béarsa go mbeidh Éire aige Cáit Ní Dhuibhir

It was late one evening and I was putting my flock in from the bad weather
in the bend of the branchy forest, and wasn't my journey gay.
and in the beginning and the end of each verse, may Ireland be Cait Ni Dhuibhir's.

Is bean rómhór i bpéin mé is mo chéile chuaigh thar toinn
mo chlann go bhfuil i ndaorbhroid go tréithlag is gan preab ina gcroí.
Ach éireiodh clanna Gael agus léimfidh go mear gach claíomh
is gurb é tús agus deireadh mo scéilse go mbeidh Éire fós ag Cáit Ní Dhuibhir.

I, a woman in great pain whose husband has gone across the waves
my children in dire bondage, exhausted, without a beat in their hearts
But the Gaels will rise and each sword will swiftly leap
and that is the beginning and end of my story, may Ireland yet be the possesion of Cáit Ní Dhuibhir.

Thats my best attempt to translate. Please mention where you got the translation if you use it. I suspect Cáit is the same as an sean bhean bhocht, or poor, old woman, Ireland personified as in Four Green Fields. Meditate on this while you are playing it.
Beidh mise ag caint leat arís.
Brían.
