Of the terms that you mentioned, the one that is changed now is "manic-depressive". The disorder is now called "bipolar disorder" but "manic-depressive" is still used and is not considered derogatory or offensive. It doesn't sound like you did anything wrong. It sounds like your friend may still be having some problems, and it's not unusual to have problems coping with these types of problems. Your friend used a type of defense mechanism with you; she or he projected their frustrations and anxiety onto you. We all do it from time to time, more when we're under lots of stress. The most severely mentally ill tend to not use defense mechanisms at all. It most likely didn't have anything to do with you at all, but I know it probably shook you up.
