I see in the EFDSS newsletter that they are planning an event on July 19 to draw media and public attention to the 'two in a bar' rule. They plan that 'portable & unamplified bands' will turn up and play at various venues and be thrown out, no, sorry, 'politely asked to leave', thus illustrating the rule. They say that a full medai briefing will precede the day. The MU, the Campaign for Live Music and others are backing the venture. Do Mudcatters want to join them?
To those that think this is a good thing, great, but I have just read a letter in the Musicians Union magazine saying that scrapping the rule will mean publicans having to pay higher wages for larger bands, not being able to afford it and therefore using musicians who will play for beer money. This will cause cash problems for already pressured musicians. ( I find myself sypathising with both sides on this one.)
Cheers
