You can avoid the handling and convenience charges if you are willing to burden yourself with buying tickets in person at the venue[most times]. You cannot avoid the 'facilities maintenance fee' as this is a method for the venue to get money they don't share with the performer(s). But theatres and music venues have nothing on sports. NFL teams make season ticket holders buy pre-season games, which are glorified practice sessions, at full pop. Many top universities require a (sometimes sizable) donation to purchase decent season tickets...and maybe even indecent ones.
My option is to go to small venues and clubs for my live music, and sports on the telly.----John
