Justa Picker's original mention of "Take Five" reminds me of another Brubeck favorite (I believe Desmond was playing w/ Brubeck when he wrote "Take Five") of mine, "Unsquare Dance," I believe from Brubeck's next album after "Take Five," "Time Further Out." It's a square-dancey-sounding melody, jazzed up, and played in 7/8 time. When they put the track on the album, they left in the band breaking up laughing at the end of the take, amazed that they'd made it to the end.... It's weird, and apparently difficult, but beautiful.
