Good story Larry but it gives a wrong impression of how things were. The escort destroyers were utterly expendable and were expected to sacrifice themselves if necessary to protect merchantmen. The action of the Jervis Bay is commemorated in song. This was I think a cruiser escorting a N.Atlantic convoy that sailed to certain death against a vastly more powerful Battleship to give the convoy time to scatter. Best wishes Keith
