fast-food chantys or shantys--today I was at an open-kitchen restaurant & all the line cooks were singing "sittin on the dock of the bay". Go figure. now by some measures, cowboy lullabies, the songs you sing in the dark as you ride round the herd of cattle settled for the night, could be considered shanties. Maybe the term shanty should be serseved for those musical events that measure and time work.
