How about the fact that folk songs are traditionally "of the people" - and therefore are more inclined to reflect the views of the 93 per cent who possess only 16 per cent of the wealth (a quick mental inversion of 7:84 there - the name once taken by a fine Scottish theatre company). I know this is no place for speechifying so I won't, but claiming that "family values, patriotism, and high moral standards"(Steve F) are the preserve of the right wing is a view I can't go along with I'm afraid.
