Apparently you have somewhat of a struggle with the concept of metaphors, so I will expand my comments. The same people who look to the U.S. for support in myriad ways (i.e. lifting us to a position of leadership, get it?) often become highly critical when we are not able to perform in a perfect manner. Well, nobody is perfect, but at least we are trying and other people consistently ask us to try....
