Does anyone here know something about the origins of racing in the US? How did it get started, and how did it evolve in the way it did, with virtually all tracks being level left-handed ovals with a short finishing straight. The whole feel of it is rather different to racing in Britain and Ireland, where each track is different and a lot more races are run over longer distances.
