I am trying to learn tunes on the mandola. I can play Morris, Country Dance and a few jigs but new tunes seem to take for ages. I can't really read music but I know where the notes are, so my wife plays them from the dots on the piano. I get the general drift then work from the dots myself. Any good advice? Is it best to learn tunes phrase by phrase or by playing all the way through eacg time? Is very slow to start with a good idea. Will I die before I master The Masons Apron?
