I am sorry - I had forgotten to add that we are looking for a bluegrass sound. He is wanting to use the banjo as part of his comedy magic children's performances. He wants a cheerful sound, and an instrument that he can pick up and use at a second's notice. I think I talked him out of the accordian :), and we think the banjo will work very well for him.
