In Jacksonville, Florida, there's great stuff at Singleton's Seafood Shack (behind Mayport naval base, next to the ferry landing). Don't let the 'little plywood shack' motif fool you; the million-dollar fishing boat outside is theirs, and you can't get fresher fish.

The Cajun Shrimp is so good, it makes your face fall right off your head soon's you take a bite.

Also down in J'ville is Whitey's Fish Camp, where the food is nearly as good, and the decor is nicer.

In Indianapolis, IN, Acapulco Joe's has the finest Mexican food. Joe died some years ago, but his legacy lives on (including his tradition of playing, every half-hour on the half-hour, Kate Smith's 'God Bless America' on the jukebox).

In Tucson, AZ, ya gotta have a steak at Pinnacle Pete's. Don't be caught wearing a tie, or they'll snip it off, and it'll join the hundreds of others nailed up on the walls.

And if only I could remember the name of the little Mexican place in West Covina, CA--burritos as big as a small dog!
