I have a 1928 recording by Shortbuckle Roark and family which is essentially the same as Harpgirl posted, but the chorus consists of "I truly understand. . . " only once each time. It's also interesting that the "Who's gonna shoe. . ." verse is separated from the "Papa's gonna shoe. . ." by two or three other verses. They also have one additional verse, as follows:
Remember what you said to me
When we stood side by side
You promised that you'd marry me
And be no other man's bride, my love
And be no other man's bride
