Re: that Harmony, LonesomeEJ. You could try having the cut-out for the adjustable bridge filled out with a slightly softer timber, eg. Iroko or Jelutong, and have a slot cut in that for a fixed bridge slide. If you don't like it, you can have the wood dug out again and the steel thing put back. If you do like it, you can have some new wood glued in. The worst that happens is minor (cosmetic) damage to the existing bridge - and it should be relatively cheap, compared to replacing the bridge with no idea of the resulting sound.
