Winamp is a great prog if you want to play around with sound. It has lots of extras that can be added (and are usually written by enthusiastic amateur programmers) called plug-ins. For instance it has a tempo plug-in which is great for learning tunes on an instrument, as you can slow a recording down without changing the pitch.
But if you just want to listen, its probably not worth bothering about.
