DAVE SWARBRICK & ATRAX RECORDS NEWS – NOVEMBER 2001

We've got lots of news and new additions on the site – www.alexlyons.co.uk - this month.

CURRENT RELEASES:

The recently reissued trio of albums – 'Lift the Lid and Listen'; 'The Ceilidh Album'; and Swarbrick & Nicol's long-unavailable 'In the Club' are all available exclusively from us. All three have recently been reviewed by respected journalists Pete Fyfe (for www.folking.com) and Michael Hunter (for www.greenmanreview.com and also for the Aussie 'Friends of Fairport' and their new Fiddlestix e-zine) and the full text is available on each album's Reviews and Information page.

'Lift the Lid and Listen' and 'The Ceilidh Album':

"…This is Dave at his cheeky best. Yes, you can put humour into the tradition without belittling it and just to prove it, here are the end results. …There is a wealth of great material here." Pete Fyfe – www.folking.com

"To say they are…an essential purchase for his fans is to state the extremely bleedin' obvious." Michael Hunter – www.greenmanreview.com

'In the Club':

"…One of history's finest hours. …What are you waiting for…?" Pete Fyfe – www.folking.com

"…An impressive and varied collection…. the spirit of the music is as potent now as it ever was." Michael Hunter – www.greenmanreview.com

All three:

"…You need these albums, simple as that." Michael Hunter – www.greenmanreview.com

NEW FROM ATRAX - TheSwarbStore:

We are proud to announce the launch of a brand new service – TheSwarbStore. In addition to our recent release, we are now also able to offer a wide selection of releases from throughout Swarb's career. From 1967's 'Rags, Reels & Airs'; through his mid-seventies/early-eighties solo albums; and right up to the nineties duo albums with Alistair Hulett. For those looking for a unique bit of memorabilia, there's even signed copies of his 1999 obituary. Proceeds from these sales go directly to Swarb so this is more artist-friendly than other retailers.

Full details (including information; track-listings; and detailed reviews) are available at our site www.alexlyons.co.uk

WHIPPERSNAPPER VIDEO AVAILABLE – IN PAL AND NTSC:

New into stock is a very special video release of Whippersnapper's appearance at the Cambridge Folk Festival in the summer of 1984. This acoustic super group, at the time consisting of Dave Swarbrick, Kevin Dempsey, Martin Jenkins and Chris Leslie, played a superb set and it's all on this collector's edition video. Almost impossible to find in its original PAL format, we are also able to offer copies in NTSC format for no extra charge. For more information and ordering details, check out our site www.alexlyons.co.uk

CREDIT CARD FACILITIES FOR OVERSEAS CUSTOMERS:

International customers who are concerned about sending cash through the mail, can pay by credit card if necessary (although cash – by registered mail - is the preferred option). This service is operated for us by Plastic Passion Records in Australia, and a handling charge will apply. If you would prefer to pay by credit card, contact us for more details.

THE SWARB ARCHIVE

Recently launched at www.alexlyons.co.uk , this will in time host a variety of resources, including articles and photographs, from throughout Swarb's career. New content is being uploaded all the time, including a new detailed Whippersnapper feature by Dave Arthur, a news item from 1978 concerning the Young Tradition's Pete Bellamy joining Swarb's touring band, and an "interesting" story from the front page of the Banbury Guardian looking at a scandal at Fairport Convention's Cropredy Festival.

Best regards from myself and Swarb.
