Congratulations on a great website! I live in NY City and have been collecting Sea Shanties for quite some time. I am writing a book, which currently contains about 400 songs of the sea, complete with a multitude of footnotes: always massively opinionated, usually entertaining, often amusing, and sometimes even informative. As is usually the case in the folk tradition, I am not doing this for money, but to preserve these treasures. I once went to Newfoundland with a tape recorder and a box of blank tapes, and came back with 314 songs. It's just possible that some of those songs (sung into my tape recorder by frail, old voices) might otherwise have disappeared. If anybody wants to join me in this pursuit, I'd love to hear from you.
