The Six String Cafe in Cary, NC, is a relatively new listening hall which opened in the spring of this year.
Everything in the place is focused on the stage and the performances. There are tables, the bar, and couches and easy chairs, all focused around the stage.
The food is good, plentiful, and reasonably priced. The cafe itself is non-smoking inside, with tables and speakers outside for those who want to smoke.
I spent a fair bit of my youth sitting in Austin folk and acoustic venues, putting the proprietors in jeopardy of, if not their mortal souls, certainly their liquor licenses. But as much as I love those venues, the Six String is my favorite.
There are open sessions on Monday and Wednesday nights, and open mic night on Tuesdays, and there is live music (ranging from tips to $5 or $10 covers) Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
More information is at http://www.sixstringcafe.com. If you are in the Research Triangle area, it is well worth your time and your money. There aren't enough acoustic venues as it is, we need to support the ones we have.
