Steve Goodman also wrote the perfect country & western song, as acknowledged by Davis Allan Coe. It had all the prerequisites of the country genre: Momma, trains, pickup trucks, gettin' drunk, prison, leavin', etc. To wit: Well I was drunk....., the day my Mom got outta prison And I went.... to pick her up... in the rain But, before... I could get to the station in my pickup... She got run over by a damned old train.
