Big Road Blues (inactive) Lyrics of Robert Johnson (11) RE: Lyrics of Robert Johnson 26 Feb 99

Honey Boy Edwards sings this verse a little differently. His version is: "Oh, baby don'tcha wanna go same o'l place, sweet home Chicago"

Since he probably learned this song from Robert Johnson (Honey Boy's cousine, Lilly Mae, was Johnson's Girl friend for a while and Honey Boy played with Johnson), these lyrics may be a legitimate alternate verse for Sweet Home Chicago. Who knows, maybe they were Johnson's original lyrics that he later changed to the recorded "land of California".

You can see Honey Boy play Sweet Home Chicago on the "Looking for Robert Johnson" video produced by John Hammond. It's a good video with good music by Johnson, Hammond, Honey Boy, and Johnny Shines (who also played with RJ), and a lot of history on Johnson.
