I reckon most of the pilots like to have the occasional instrument handy, although a few just rely on aerial photographs and a good torch. Following a pigeon is more reliable, but only in good visibility - do make sure that they've loaded the pigeon for the return flight and haven't stuck it where a banjo could fall on it.
