I'm not going to be much help, but your question is just irresistable, so here's my input. About 4 years ago my wife and I had the great pleasure of attending our Finnish (exchange student) daughter's graduation in Helsinki. While we were there for a week, I roamed all around the city, but found no "folk clubs" or street musicians or anything resembling my favorite "earthy" music. We did, however, go to dinner at a big restaurant with a large bar and a full stage for music...right in downtown, walking distance from the harbor where all the ships come and go. We were blown away by a Finnish group that did Rockabilly music better than any Americans working today! Can't remember the restaurant name, and the group was something typical like "Ronnie and the Rockets", but they were stunningly great....complete with vintage instruments from the '50s! If you (like I) can't find any Finnish folk music, you may be surprised to find some great American music played by Finns! And by the way, don't look for Finnish cuisine- unless you like 19 types of kippered fish and 13 cheeses- it's an oxymoron. Also, they stay up all night, 'cause there's no "night" at that time of year, so plan on being a night owl.
