I don't know - I suppose sometimes you'd like to do a song but the background isn't right - as for Jean Redpath here - or it doesn't fit your personal experience well enough, or it's from a different country. I know some songwriters are very touchy about having their words changed, and I certainly don't think the Fureys improved on Eric Bogle's No Man's Land by trying to bend it towards the IRA ... If it's well done and I can see (and accept) the reasons for the changes I don't mind. It all depends, as they say. - Susanne
