I didn't see it on street corners, but in my college dorm there were some fellows that sang some of the doo-wop songs in four-part harmony. Sounded good. I understand that "Searchin'" was the model for the song "Elvira," by the Oak Ridge Boys. "Searchin'" is a fine song indeed, and the flip side of the 45, "Young Blood," is one of the sexiest of the 50's rock songs.
