Maybe "knight" is in fact a corruption of "fly", then, and we've all been singing it wrong for years!:) If you sing it fast with a slur or accent, the mistake could be natural. Now "Lord of the Flies" makes perfect sense. I never knew of that meaning. Do you have the big, lovely OED that costs $$$$? The best I've every reached is the two-volume version.
