Hi Straford,
How about ...
There(A7) was(D) a lord..who(G) lived in the town(D)...
Who(G) had a lovely(D) handsome daugh(A7)ter(D)
She was courted by a fair(G) young man(D)
Who(G) was servant(D) to her fa(A)ther(D)
But when(D*) her parents .... came to know(A) .... (A7)
They swore(D) they'd ban him from(G) the is(A)land(D)
But the maid she knew .. that her heart(G) would break(D)
Had(G) she to part(D) from young Matt Hy(A)land(D)
D* means 'officially' should be Bm, which I'm still not very good at playing - and this is one of the times it seems fine to use D.
BTW, Do you sing the verse about him getting his pay ???
Hope it's of use,
Hilary
