Nope, Philippa, yer diacriticals are oriental all over. Lemme see 'An Spailpín Fánach', nach ea ? Is it just because I've heard a Seamus Ennis (sung) version or does anyone else think the 'nonsense' bits sound a bit like pipes. I don't know if there were even separate Irish regiments at the time of the Crimean War or whether the practice of playing the pipes in front of those about to become cannon fodder had established itself at the time
