I'm an American living in London for 12 years now. I've been to Edinburgh twice and have fallen in love with the city. However, I have found that on the tours of the city the Scot guides did not like Americans very much, they seemed to take great pride in making snide remarks about Americans. The second trip - I kept my mouth shut so they didn't know I was American and got on much better. I am not assuming though that this attitude is indicative of all Scots - just the tour guides.
