This is a long shot but if you go to this web site (below) you'll see several John Gary CDs listed. The last one on the page is an Irish Greatest Hits CD on which Dennis Day sings most of the songs with John. Danny Boy is listed as one of the tracks - it might have the verse you're looking for.
