JeZeBeL Attracting young folks to folk music (43) RE: Attracting young folks to folk music 21 Mar 02

I got into folk music by being dragged along to rapper dancing, and a session in the cumberland arms in newcastle. I have now been playing for two years, 2 1/2, and love it. i'm ever so greatful for the good friend who showed me there was more to folk than dubliners!! I think festivals are a great way to introduce people to the folk scene. I will be taking a friend along to some this summer. another catter, CatsPHiddle, who is new to folk and young at 21 like me. I'm lucky enough to have known the likes of Ian Stephenson for some 9 years and he has introduced me to Sam pIrt, and the rest of 422 and the Pack and other young folkies. They're all a great bunch of people who want to carry on the tradition, and have a laugh and enjoy both the musical and social aspects of folk.
