When I'm gigging alot I use Isopropyl alcohol and a soft cloth to clean the strings after every set. During the night I wipe my strings frequently. The mandolin is a bit trickier than the guitar. Doesn't help a ton, but it allows me to get a couple of nights out of my strings before I have to change them. Never tried WD-40.
