In the book Albion's Seed by Fischer (book describes the British folkways of early settlers in the New World)he says that the English spoken in Shakespeare's time was more akin to the English found in the Southern Appalacians. In other words to be accurate Hamlet at the Globe in Shakespeare's time would have sounded like Gomer Pyle and his friends. |
