The would-be ousting of Queen Victoria by Irish nationalism is the gist of the whole thing. I have to agree that the words of the song are difficult to discern in the recording - went back to it this evening, and started to try to work it out, but can do little better than Jennifer on the verses, and not as well as Jennifer on the chorus, so that'll be a help when I have another listen and try again.
