I'm sorry it took so long to respond. I'm at work as I write this and I've been very busy putting in a project. Just now, I had the great pleasure of jumping thru some of the threads. I was fascinated with the "jimmy cracked corn" What that song meant has plagued me since I was a child. Now I know....and I know I've found a new place to hang. I used to open my e-mail first in the morning. All that has changed. This morning it was MudCat. I hope I can fit in.
Now to this thread. Thank you so much for this wonderful response. I read some of it yesterday and went around singing that song all last night and this morning.
And MAG, a lot of us, men and women, have been there.
The version I remember had this verse: You come thru the door justa kickin' up sand I can tell what you been doin' by the way you stand. The lemon verse I remember like this: Keep on squeezin' them lemons, squeeze em' til the good juice flows (twice)
I may have heard this in Washington Square, but I feel it was in one of the coffee houses. I used to work as a free lance waitress. If one of the waiters or waitresses didn't show up they would call me. If I felt like working, or I needed the money, I'd go work. I worked in all the best, and all the worst. I met a lot of great people, and some that became famous later.
Now I'm a senior programmer/analyst for a very prominent bank in NY.
What a difference, huh. Which do I like better? I don't know. Back then, I didn't understand why anyone would spend their whole life working just so they could relax when they were older. I felt they should relax and enjoy life when you're your young. I hitchhiked to SF along with everyone else.
Now I have a beautiful home right on the water where I just pull out my kayak and go for a long ride out in heaven by myself or with a friend. I couldn't do that if I didn't spend every weekday here. Unless i made it a point to marry and live off of someone else. Just can't seem to do that. Live off someone else I mean.
Which is the best? I don't kow.
Gee, I'm rambling. It's so easy to put down your thoughts.
Thanks for listening. I love this.
