I occasionally have to pull a night shift in the hospital where I work. I usually work the 4pm-midnight shift, which fits my rhythms perfectly. It's a nice shift; not half as busy as the daytime, and crazy things happen after 6pm to make it interesting. When I work all night, I start to fade around 4am. My friends who work the night shift (midnight to 8am here) on a regular basis usually go home in the morning and sleep until around 1pm. Then they're up for the afternoon, take a 2.5 hour nap at 9pm and come in for midnight.
