A riding is a county divided into three parts for administration purposes - East, North and West. There is no such thing as a South Riding. Tipperary is divided into two parts, North and South, but it would be incorrect to call them ridings. The novel, 'South Riding', was a satire on the Yorkshire Ridings. |
