Did anybody mention the dirty joke? "Merry sing cuckoo" means "lotsa cuckolds a-coining these warm spring nights." The cuckoo clock is an elaborate version of the same gag, I've heard it said. The informant observed, "and that's about as close as the Swiss ever come to humor." For variation, Ezra Pound did a parody: Winter is i-cumen in Hlude sing ghoddam.
