My late, great, Blue was a blue heeler. Her coat was the standard blue merle: no actual blue color, but black with a coarse white hair mingled in.....and then the solid black, with a wee bit of tan and white... There was nothing else "standard" about that Dog. Perhaps the name refers to those who have lost them.....
