It certainly isn't the Beachcomber song that I had in mind when you asked the question, though it's vaguely familiar from somewhere or other. It's a versification of the story of the MacCodrums, who were supposed to have seal blood in the family; North Huis should be North Uist. Quite modern from the sound of it, so probably written not long before your friend first heard it.
