Thanks for all the suggestions and I hope for more insights. I know that some people have everything scripted beforehand, and some just ad lib. There are some people that I was amazed to discover that it was scripted because it SOUNDED and APPEARED so natural and spontaneous, but come to find out it was all planned out. I found this out because I attended a couple of different shows and the banter in each case was exactly the same, otherwise I would never have suspected. Also, I think it must be easier if you have a partner or fellow musicians onstage rather than just being up there by yourself. I'm glad this topic came up - I'm going to start focusing more on it when I perform because I think it's one of my weak points.
