GUEST,Colin Manning Ballads for the loss of a loved one? (55* d) Lyr Add: RIDE ON (Jimmy MacCarthy) 23 Aug 02

Are you only talking about death, or loss in a more general sense ? If the more general sense is what you mean, there is a very powerful and beautiful song by a man called Jimmy MacCarthy from Cork in Ireland, called "Ride On" (made famous by the Irish singer Christy Moore). The lyrics and melody are very powerful, and in the song the singer is describing the feeling of loss of his lover, who cannot love him any more because of his political/violent beliefs: Words are (first passage shows the chord pattern, it is the same throughout, including chorous and you should sing it slowly):

--
[Am]
True you ride the finest horse
[F]
I have ever seen
[G]
Standing sixteen one or two
[Am]
With eyes so wild and green
And you ride that horse so well
With hands light to the touch
I could never go with you no matter how I wanted to

CHOROUS

Ride On
See You
I could never go with you, no matter how I wanted to

As you ride into the night
With hands light to the touch
Rub your claws along my gut
One last time
I turn to face the empty space
Where you used to lie
And look for the spark that lights the dard
Through a teardrop in your eye

CHOROUS
--

Regards,

Colin
