I would echo what Pete Chadbund said above. Also, if you're going to a French camp don't bother taking food (talk about coals to Newcastle). The catering in France, both solid and liquid, is great. Catering in British camps is good but basic - stews and stuff. If the kids have not been brought up to appreciate good basic ingredients, then you're going to need a supply of junk food and sweets.
