I think wooden and brass pins do alter the acoustic characteristics slightly. So slightly, in fact, that the player hears it -- maybe -- but not anybody else more than a couple of feet away. The real differnce, dammit, is you. If Tony Rice picks up a $200 Yamaha, and I pick up a 1940 D-28, the Yamaha will sound MUCH better. T.
