I didn't find this in the DT or forum, so I thought I'd post it.  I learned it from an Ian and Sylvia album in the early 1980s.

(THE) LAST LONELY EAGLE
(C. Dawson, of The New Riders Of The Purple Sage) © ca. 1970-80

  G             Em                       C                  G
If you go down 'round the bend in the river,
                           D                                            C                   G
You're gonna find a few changes ' been goin' down there,
                 G                 Em                     C                 G
For the people who live 'round the bend in the river
                 D                                                C                 G
Have forgotten their dreams as they cut off their hair.

Cho.:
                       D                                  C                G
And take a last dying look at the last lonely eagle.
            D                 D7                   G
He's soaring the length of the land.
               D                                     C                G
Shed a tear for the fate of the last lonely eagle,
                  D                  D7           (C) G
For you know that he never will land.

If you go down where the lights crush the night time,
Back far enough, so you can't feel the fears,
Remember the woman you left on the mountain,
Who's sitting alone with the stars and her tears.

Cho.

If you go down to the gas-powered flatlands,
Where most of the people just think think that they're free,
Remember the peace that we shared on the mountain.
Come back to the love that you shared here with me.

Cho.
