Sometimes - try to listen to the Auditions for the play offs - before the uglier ( and yes I mean that ) ones get voted out. Some of those kids have real and I mean serious real talent in their voices. Then the voting knocks out those not fitting the 'pop-idol look' ! Could you imagine Mary Coughlin or Van Morrisson in the running..... At least there is / was the hard road. A lot of people I know criticise the fact they (popstars)don't sing anything original - and lets face it - in folk music, who are we to comment. But in the end the shows are for 'Pop' not genres.
