I first heard this song when Priscilla performed it at the Niskayuna Folk Festival, sometime around 1978 or '79. I had an uncle who was wounded at Anzio in 1944, and was paralyzed from the waist down at the age of 19. To this day I remember the impact of Priscilla's "The Band Played Waltzing Matilda." When I walked backstage to speak to her, our eyes met, and without a word she simply held out her arms and embraced me. To stay with the thread: Her version retains the original "arse."
