Dear Mudcat friends,

I'm planning on buying an acoustic guitar for my girlfriend for Christmas.She has recently expressed an interest in learning to play. I've been playing for a few years so I am trying to use my limited knowledge to pick the right guitar for her.

My first question is whether or not I should get an acoustic-electric with built-in electronics or a traditional acoustic. I have a Epiphone FT-130 Cabellero.

Please point me to old threads if this has come up before.
