As you've noticed if you're following this thread closely, I misspelled the composer's name on my earlier post. Last name is "Hays." Helps immensely to spell names correctly when you're searching the internet. The Library of Congress link above, or more directly at http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/smhtml/sm1870Authors52.html lists 137 works by Hays, including several Carter family songs I had assumed were composed by A.P. Carter - among these is "Jimmie Brown the Paper Boy" and "You've Been a Friend to Me." Not listed at this link, but credited to him several other places is "Mollie Darling." I also found one source crediting him with the fiddle tune "Shamus O'Brien."
