I have the CD of Sara Grey's "Back in the Airly Days", and have transcribed what I think she's singing. Hope this is what you've been looking for.

GOING TO KANSAS
(from Sara Grey)

Oh this heart of mine is breaking, with grief tis granted now,
And I never shall be happy anymore,
For there are cabins in the valleys and cabins on the hill,
And the green grass is growing round the door.

CHORUS:
Can't you hear the owls a hootin', in the darkness of the night,
It brings the drop of sweat out on me brow,
Oh I feel so awful lonesome, I fear I'll die with fright,
Since the little cabins all are empty now.

Oh they say they've gone to Kansas,
Where they say there's better times,
But they will have to learn how to plow,
Are just the same as in ol' Dixie,
Where they want to win their dimes,
What's the use of livin',
Oh when there ain't no joy combined.

Chorus

Oh the little tater patches are growing high with weeds,
And the melon vines they all have gone to waste,
And the millings that were on them have rotted off and died,
For there's no one left around to get a taste.

Chorus
